How to cancel an Insurance policy
Posted on Sunday, October 19th, 2008

If you are looking for an insurance sample cancellation letter then may be this will help you.

First of all advise your insurance company be telephone that you intend to cancel - they will challenge you on this but remember once you have checked your terms and conditions that apply to your policy and are within any cancellation allowable time you have every right to terminate the policy.

Once you have spoken to them by telephone state you wish to cancel in a letter that can read something like this.

Dear Sirs

I wish to cancel with immediate effect the policy number. Please action this as a matter of urgency and cancel any direct debit mandate in place used to collect my premiums. If there are any monies to refunded please action immediately.

Thank you for your help with this matter

Yours Faithfully

Mr Policy holder

Remember to state clearly your name and address and your policy number - keep a copy of the letter and I would advise sending it by registered post as you will then have proof of sending. If you are looking to cancel as your circumstances have changed and the premiums are proving expensive remember the insurance company may be able to look at the cover they have provided for you and assist in the short term, even while times are hard it is of the utmost importance to protect both yourself and your immediate family in case the worst happens.

Remember when you take out any insurance policy it is important to check the terms and conditions and ensure you are able to cancel or amend the policy to suit any changes in you and your families personal circumstances.
